Here is where the presidential candidates stand when it comes to same-sex marriage.

Jojo Binay - "I take the position of the Catholic Church (against same-sex marriage)."

Rody Duterte - (In 2012) "Being married and marrying the person that you love is a matter of choice. Gays are supposed to have the equal rights and freedom as heterosexuals, including the freedom to marry and build a family."

(In 2016) Asked if he will push for legalizing same-sex marriage if elected president, he said that he would not push for it, citing the civil code of the Philippines, which is based on universally accepted Christian tenets.

Grace Poe - "We have to be able to include in our laws 'unions.' Maybe not exactly marriages but to be able to recognize the rights of (same-sex) partners."

Mar Roxas - "As a matter of public policy, I am not in favor of same-sex marriage. However, I have family members who are very close to their partners and I respect them, love them, accept them wholeheartedly."

Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago - "Marriage is a union founded on the distinction of sex. That contracting parties must be of different sex is, in fact, a requirement under the provisions on legal capacity."
